Welcome, Midnight!
Hello, All ~
Well, Midnight passed his first night with us, and all is definitely well today! He has been alternating between eating and greeting Vega whenever she goes up to his pen. As with all new residents of Sundance, the humans are going to move very slowly, allowing Midnight whatever transition time he needs. What that looks like in practice began today with John and I talking softly to him whenever we passed his pen. Every so often, I’ll slowly set my fingers against the wire where he is and let him sniff. We’ll continue this for a few days, then I’ll need to clean his pen, which will be a slow, calm process ~ without Vega’s help! 🙂
We met Midnight when his former owner reached out to me via email. Her daughter is going into her senior year in high school, then on to trade school, and the whole family was concerned that Midnight would not receive the attention and care he deserved. In our eyes, this is one of those human life transitions that fits our mission to help the animals of humans who are going through a huge change. Because Midnight is only 5 years old, he will have a place with us for many safe, happy years.
On a personal note, I’m marveling at how the Universe has interpreted our mission. When we filed our incorporation papers, I was thinking that the animals we’d be able to help through their human’s transitions were dogs, maybe cats, possibly a bird or two. So far, we’ve been asked to help horses and a rabbit. I’ll let you know who comes to us next! Have a fabulous day!
