Sheep Shearing Days

Bella After Shearing
Bella wants to assure you all that even though it’s not snowing today, losing her thick wool coat has yet to make her happy! I think that all the other sheep agree with her. Before last Tuesday, they were all tucked up in long, thick wool, the kind of coat that nothing can penetrate ~ not snow, not wind, not cold. Here’s what I mean:

Notice the look in Bella’s eyes before shearing? That’s my Bella ~ ready to take on the world. Now, her wool is tucked up in one of my big plastic tubs, and her tail is tucked between her legs! I know that being sheared is hugely important for a sheep’s well being ~ after all, the weather here will flip any day, and it’ll hit 70 with sunshine! But until that happens, they need deep straw beds to cuddle into and lots of love.
Our shearers ~ Katie and Matt Goff of Alpaca Barbers ~ are absolutely wonderful with all the animals. Matt held Duchess so tenderly; she can’t be moved around because of her rupture, and her rear legs are very fragile and unstable. So Matt just sat with her while Katie sheared.

But here’s Duchess now!

Enjoy these other “Before and After” Photos! I’m going to run out and give them all another hug. Until next time!
