Farewell Facebook

Not once in my entire life have I ever questioned whether or not I could figure something out. Is that arrogance? Perhaps, but through the years, I’ve found that if I apply logical reasoning, use the language of the problem’s discipline, and read read read, I can usually get to at least a basic understanding of whatever I’m studying. Until now.
Now, I read read read, and I’m no closer to understanding what on earth is happening in this country than I was on November 5th. I’m in the same boat as I know many of you are ~ How can so many people act in so many ways that ignore logic, history, consequences, the rule of law, justice, and seemingly every tenet of kindness to other people, animals, and our planet? I can’t find a coherent thread that would lead me to an answer. What I can find in abundance are constant streams of “information,” a bombardment of photos that are generated to reinforce the chaos swirling around us, and angry rhetoric that demeans critical thinking and compassion. This is not a world I want to reinforce, or even to engage with.
But then the question becomes, Okay, Tracy, what are you going to do about it? The answer for me is to disengage, to stop reinforcing the tools that are being used to deepen the chaos, increasing the destruction of everything I hold dear. I need to stand still, in this place, and continue doing the work we’ve been called to do: Helping the unwanted animals remember joy; working to help heal this little piece of the Earth; giving out of the place of abundance we’ve been blessed with; sharing our work and ideas with those who move with kindness to others as their light.
So we’re ending Sundance’s social media presence, but we’re not ending Sundance.
We will be here with all our residents, those here now and those yet to find us. We’re stepping back from the engines of chaos, but not from you. I’ll still write blog posts and newsletters that will come to your inbox, and our Website will remain ours. We’re here, always, doing the work we love.
If I could ask one favor of you, it’s this: please pass on our name, our website, our mission. Let people know that they can sign up for our blog posts and newsletters if they go to our website. Be the voice for the animals that social media should have been instead of what it has become.
With gratitude for all of you, Tracy
