A Whirlwind Spring
What a whirlwind Spring we’ve had! I promised to bring you all up to date, and now is an excellent time to do so!
We’ve all heard the stories about the shortage of houses on the market these days and how sellers are reaping tremendous benefits from this. It’s true ~ we looked at multiple places once March started, and all of them had bids way over the asking price before I could even check on the property’s zoning! And then, right before finals week (when the only thing we can think about is grading stacks of papers) our farm showed up on the automatic e-mail from our Realtor. That was a Friday morning around 9-ish. By 11:00, we had decided we wanted to see it, and I called the township office to check on zoning. Zoning was perfect, so we visited the property on Sunday. We loved it, so that evening, we put in a bid ~ and the sellers accepted it the next morning! We had a contract, and it all fell into place from there ~ with no hitches.
I write this on the second week anniversary of our signing the mortgage papers, sitting in the farmhouse, totally enjoying all the half-done pieces and the work ahead. So far, we continue to stake out fencing for dogs and whatever other animals Spirit sends us, we’ve set stakes for the garden, and we know where the orchard will be. (Did you know that if you set an orchard where the pigs can wander around in it, they will eat all the fallen fruit, which will drastically decrease wasps? Yes, one of the barns is next to where the orchard will be!) We already have a dozen or so cattle gates, multiple panels of cattle fencing, and our riding mower has begun to blaze a path around the perimeter of the pastures for morning and evening walk-about. Next up? Take down all the rusted barbwire fencing. I’ll keep you posted! Thanks for reading! Tracy
